Rust Advanced Numerical Reasoning Appraisal (RANRA)

RANRA (Rust's Advanced Numerical Reasoning Appraisal) is a companion test to the Watson Glaser Critical Thinking Appraisal (critical reasoning) and measures higher level numerical reasoning aptitude for use with those of high potentials (graduates to senior managerial staff). It can of course be used as a stand alone tool when numerical reasoning alone needs to be assessed. RANRA assesses an individual's capability for deduction, interpretation and evaluation but is not a computational maths test.

Developed by the highly regarded psychometrician and the only Professor of Psychometrics in the UK, Dr John Rust, as a companion test to the now ubiquitous Watson-Glaser Critical Reasoning Appraisal called the Rust Advanced Numerical Reasoning Appraisal (RANRA).

Ranra is a test to see if individuals can analyse data given and make a decision based on that information and asses if more information needed.

These abilities, can be measured. However, because the general view remains that this sort of innate intelligence is born, not made, many organisations fail to develop their managers as well as they could.

The RANRA assessment comprises of two interdependent tests:

RANRA comparison

Comparison of quantities – presents comparative data, and the individual must select the appropriate answer.

Sufficiency of information - Each question has two statements giving certain information, then gives five possible combinations of answers. Candidates must give the correct combination.

Features and benefits

Measures sophisticated numerical reasoning aptitude rather than a check on basic mathematical capability.

Provides an assessment of the higher ability level of numerical reasoning and can be used alongside the critical reasoning assessment of the Watson Glaser.

A versatile, supplementary tool that is valuable across a range of situations from selection through to individual development.

Provides an insight into an important but a traditionally difficult to assess area.

Areas for use:
Graduate recruitment, Selection for roles requiring numerical reasoning, Succession planning
