Knocking down the stereotypes

Traditionally dominated by white males, the sector is being forced to undergo a major turnaround in the gender, race and ability mix of its workforce. For construction firms, this means accurately mapping the profiles of the roles required and then thoroughly assessing potential recruits against these profiles. By replicating assessment using a number of methods (for example online psychometric testing, behavioural event interviewing and assessment centre observation), the objectivity and accuracy is greatly increased. And correspondingly, the potential for hiring based on stereotypes is virtually eliminated. Going forward, the organisation needs to ensure that the diversity is maintained throughout the career ladder by collecting performance data accurately and objectively.

Keeping site of team development
